Industrial Polystyrene Waste

This process emerged from in-depth research into the recycling of expanded polystyrene. In waste form, it is transformed into a compact, crumbly block. It is thanks to fire that the material changes its status from industrial waste to object. Once solidified, polystyrene becomes a structural material. Its organic, burnt form is reminiscent of the most archaic lava stone, albeit made of plastic.

For functional purposes, the sheet is compressed and flattened, revealing a marbled, smoky pattern. In this way, Zanoni transforms polystyrene, initially considered waste, into an object that combines organic aesthetics and functionality, while rethinking the perception of recycled material.
