The object conceived by designer Nicolas Zanoni emerges from in-depth research into the recycling of expanded polystyrene. As a waste product, it is transformed into a compact, crumbly block. It is thanks to fire that the material changes its status from industrial waste to object. Once solidified, polystyrene becomes a structural material. Its organic, burnt form is reminiscent of the most archaic lava stone, albeit made of plastic.

For functional purposes, the sheet is compressed and flattened, revealing a marbled, smoky pattern. In this way, Zanoni transforms polystyrene, initially considered waste, into an object that combines organic aesthetics and functionality, while rethinking the perception of recycled material.

This project was accomplished with the help of Bel Albatros
